# max_test_steps

#### `max_test_steps: <integer>` (Optional)

## Description

The maximum number of test steps to perform. If set, `max_test_steps` will override the number of test steps set by [`run_mode`](/run-mode). Setting `max_test_steps` is useful for customizing the time spent on testing the model.

* By default `max_test_steps` is set according to [`run_mode`](/run-mode).
* `max_test_steps`must be `> 0`.
